“It is very exciting for our
Armada swimmers to share the pool with such accomplished swimmers,” noted
Shipherd, “It's one thing to swim for a best time but quite another to swim
against the worlds best in the lane next to you.”
The Armada was represented by 13 swimmers who competed in a total of 56 events.
Armada swimmers qualified for 22 Championship Finals and 15 Consolation Finals.
“This is an extraordinary accomplishment for a team our size,” boasted Shipherd.
The Armada swimmers qualified for the Championship Finals in almost 40% of the
events they entered. When Consolation Finals are included, Armada swimmers
competed in the evening finals for over 66% of their events.
Leading the list
of outstanding performers was Nikki Chang who qualified for the
short course Juniior Nationals to be held in Columbus, Ohio next
month. Nikki also had best times in every other event she
swam, broke five minutes for the first time in the 500 free and made
the top eight in four events. Armada
swimmers who swam in Championship Finals included Jessica Marsh (8th
100 free, 10th 200 back), Nicole Chang (5th 200 free, 4th 500 free,
2nd 1000 free, 2nd 1650 free), Kirstie Chen (3rd 100 fly, 4th 200

Mayfield (7th 500 free, 4th 1650 free, 10th 200 fly). “This was a
very good meet for our swimmers,” stated Shipherd. “It has given us
a very good indication of where are swimmers are and what needs
to be done to prepare for the Short Course Nationals, Short
Course Jr Nationals, and the Winter Age Group Champs in
December.”
