This was the first competition
for The Armada in the newly established IMX Challenge which assigns IMX points
for each event based on the ranking of the swimmer's times in the International
IMX point standards. Coach, Garman explained that the IMX scores allow
comparison of swimmers in different age groups. Since the IMX scores are based
on a National percentile ranking, swimmers of different ages can be compared
based on this ranking rather than on swim times. The IMX points for each event
were tallied to determine an IMX point total for each swimmer. “IMX scores over
2000 represent significant achievement,” according to Garman, “while totals over
3000 place the swimmer at a very elite level.”
Leading the way for the
Armada was 13 year old Ryan Kao, who scored an incredible 4,751
points, the sixth highest total in the nation at this point in the
season. Bomi Park was the highest ranked IMX swimmer for the
12 year old girls, scoring 2,871 points and ranking her 8th in
Southern California. Patrick Young was the top 12 year old boy
for the Armada with 2,359 points and Emmett Poon led the 14 year old
boys with an impressive 3,487 points, sixth best in southern
California.
Senior Coach
Jacobson was very impressed with the IMX scores of several swimmers
noting that it was still early in the short course season and the
team was training hard without any tapering before the meet. “These
IMX scores are remarkable,” added coach Jacobsen, “because the
swimmer must be very proficient in all strokes to achieve such high
marks.” “The IMX scores show our swimmers are excelling in all age
groups,” concludes Jacobson, “The Armada is on track to have a
very exciting season.”
